Transformers: Dark of the Moon is the name of the next installment of the Transformers franchise. The video game is a prequel story to the movie, which will be released shortly before the launch of the upcoming movie. For Transformer fans, this becomes a no-brainer: play the game, get an introduction to the new movie, and then go see the movie.
Sounds like a win-win situation. So, how does the game look and play? GoozerNation had an opportunity to get a preview of Transformers: Dark of the Moon and this is what we saw, including some new characters to the video game and heard some teases about Megatron.
First off, the graphics are looking pretty slick. Check out the screenshots in the Image Gallery. To be fair, there was nothing new that will make you jump out of your seat, but they look great and you won’t be disappointed. The game is presented in an almost-cartoon style that works well for Transformers. As for the gameplay, it’s arcade action and you see the points you collect on screen as you blow up the bad guys. You can shoot while driving a car or in other vehicular form. And there’s a lock-on targeting system that allows you to strafe while driving. The seamless gameplay has improved since War for Cybertron and the transformations are very quick. There was also much talk about stealth play while in vehicle form. That’s something to look forward to with some hands-on time.
In Transformers: Dark of the Moon, you are playing on Earth. This provides many opportunities to change up the landscape. During the preview there were gameplay scenes in rocky areas, lush areas, fighting in the cities and inside secret bases. And you can take to the air playing as a fighter jet. There was an impressive sequence in which Starscream duels Stratosphere.
Speaking of characters, several familiar faces will be returning along with some new ones. And one particular Decepticon will take on a whole new form. Characters include: Bumblebee, Ironhide, Soundwave, Starscream, Stratosphere, Laserbeak, Megatron and more. Laserbeak is new to the video games and comes from the Transformers lore. Laserbeak is a feathery type of bird with engines and guns. He’s pretty cool and offers a change of pace from the big guys. Laserbeak also provides a new flying dynamic, as he can fly inside of bases. As for Megatron, you’ll learn what his new form is and also get the story behind the ‘why’ and the ‘how.’
With all of these characters come a slew of different weapons, which have varying degrees of effect against different opponents. You’ll definitely want to develop strategy on what weapons to use depending on who you are fighting. Your strategy will also come into play as you fight as different characters in different environments. All of this provides a game that provides the opportunity for multiple playthroughs.
As for online multiplayer, that is making a come back and is being revamped from War for Cybertron. However, the developers were being tight-lipped about it and there isn’t much to report right now.
Overall, the preview will definitely whet the appetites of die-hard Transformers fans and the game might even bring in some new fans. Keep an eye on the release date for the movie, for the game will come out right before.
