Transformers Generations can be seen as the successor of Classics and Universe toylines that ceased in 2008 but making a come back in a rebranded form in 2010.
This line is dedicated to mainly deluxe figures with few voyagers. The deluxe class figures stand at about 5.5 to 6 inches tall. The transformation level is between intermediate to moderate.
Just like it’s predecessors, Transformers Generations was reintroduced as a platform of suggesting homages of older Transformers characters, mainly Generation One’s as new toys with of course, applied modern toy technology to provide more articulation and paintjob-accuracy.
Transformers Generations can be seen as a memorable toyline to celebrate the glory of the Transformers roots and origins which was associated closely to the Generation One. Other than Generation One, it also emulates designs based upon characters from IDW Publishing Transformers comics and also Transformers War For Cybertron game.
Some characters from the War For Cybertron game were absorbed as part of the toyline making use the ambiguous prefix ‘Cybertronian’ on their official names.
There are no series or other indications on the toys’ packaging regarding which continuity the characters hail from. This seems to follow Hasbro’s recent trend of leaving as much of that kind of information as possible up to the imagination of the fans.
This line officially starts on July 2010 in conjunction of the 2010 Cybertron Con in Shanghai, China. First photos of upcoming figures set for release on Spring 2011 were unveiled.
