DOTM - Metal thrashing at it's best!

It took me almost two weeks before I could see “Transformers 3” or “Transformers: Dark of the Moon”. I tried it last week but there were about 80 people in front of me at the ticket counter.
The screening times didn’t fit into my social hours because it was about two and a half hours long. Since I had already seen the first two “Transformers” movies, it became almost an obligation on my part to see the third part.
Considering Michael Bay’s reputation as a director, nothing was going to surprise me. It was a CGI movie on a humungous scale. The special effects and the prolonged action sequences compelled me to shift my derriere on a regular basis.
After “Transformers 1 & 2”, one was hard put to guess what was in store in the third instalment. Naturally, “Transformers” fans expect nothing less than the near impossible and spectacular.
With a budget running close to US$195 million (RM585 million), “Transformers 3” can only be noisier, more chaotic and functioning at level five in terms of cinematic pyrotechnics.
The question in some men’s minds was whether the new girl was hotter than Megan Fox who found herself left out in the cold after she made some unsavoury comments about Michael Bay.
She allegedly alluded to working with the director like working with Adolf Hitler. Before you could shout “Autobots assemble!” Fox found herself out in the cold. That’s Hollywood, my friends.
Anyway, English actress Rosie-Huntington-Whiteley quickly found herself cast in the role of Carly Spencer, the new love interest of Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf).
Master plan
All warm-blooded males won’t be able to take their eyes off Rosie because she stands at 5ft 9in without heels. With some tight clothes as demanded by director Bay, “Dark of the Moon” becomes even hotter, and it has nothing to do with the action sequences.
Storywise, the plot is a bit convoluted but you only need to know that a Cybertronian aircraft called the Ark crashed on the moon in 1961 around the time the first US astronauts stepped on the lunar planet.
An Autobot leader named Sentinel Prime who was piloting the Ark became comatose during the crash. Fifty years later, the Decepticons activated their master plan and struck a deal with the reawakened Sentinel Prime.
In the midst of that bewildering domain of robots, Deception killer Shockwave begins to decimate Autobot ranks. It is a crazy chain of events as Sam gets tossed all over the place while trying to save his lovely girlfriend Carly.
You are guaranteed not a moment’s respite as the race to save planet Earth reaches its climax in a city that is torn asunder by mighty killer machines.
The CGI is so cool that even if you are not a big fan of 3D, Dolby Surround and all that technical sophistication, you will find yourself being sucked into a vortex of an almost never-ending journey of mesmerising twirls, spiralling aircrafts, high-altitude-low-opening special force parachutists, and mind-numbing slash-and-burn scenes.
There are two big names in “Transformers 3” to watch out for. They are John Malkovich and Patrick Dempsey both of whom added some colour to the entire plot with their fine acting.
“Dark of the Moon” was specifically designed to keep you properly entertained for more than 157 solid minutes. If you find the movie boring after having watched it, you are not human.
Big budget movie
Of course, you can choose to be different from other ordinary mortals by paying RM50 for the Gold Class seat. Maybe that would be fun, if you have the dough to spare.
Otherwise, watch the movie on Wednesdays and pay only RM7 at the GSC cinema. Now that the movie is about two weeks old, the tension and excitement about this film has somewhat abated a little.
You may bring along your little nephews, nieces and young cousins to see the show. I believe it has a PG-13 rating which means that it has very little of those offensive materials that would be bad for children.
Right now as far as box office revenue is concerned, “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” is already considered the 47th highest grossing film of all time.
That should tell you something. You can watch the movie in 3D and enjoy the full effects of this big budget movie. Or pay a bit less, and watch it in the normal format.
One thing is almost guaranteed, you will certainly be entertained till your body aches.
Bring along a jacket. After two hours, the air-conditioned atmosphere can give you the shivers or force you to take an unplanned trip to the restroom.
