Where would Chevrolet be without its iconic flagship car, front and center? Chevy displayed two, wait, make that three, Corvettes at the 2011 Auto Show, if you count a Transformer named Sideswipe. Okay, GM dubs it officially only a “Corvette Stingray Concept” (CSC).
Well, here’s hoping it becomes a reality. The silver beauty recalls the C3 Vette’s curvy past, blending old school design cues with an eye towards the future. Sideswipe the Autobot had a cameo in Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. It’ll be interesting to see if it shows up in the upcoming Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon being released this summer.
Is this the new Corvette coming out, say, in a few years? Chevy’s not budging on that one, but people are taking to the concept exceedingly well.
Down to more reality-based production cars, Corvette has always been the Top Dog in Chevy’s camp. Finished in Jetstream Blue Metallic Tintcoat (an extra cost option), the ZR1 looked as good as it should perform. Its supercharged LS motor makes for 638hp; simply the fastest ‘Vette ever. If you want one, you’ll have to pay dearly for it. The king of Corvettes, it is also the most expensive model checking in at about 125K.
Z06 on the other hand, at roughly 75K, makes for an impressive package. It does everything well, just not with the above-and-beyond supercharging. Fitted with carbon fiber panels, it sheds some excessive weight to, well, help the driver shed some excessive tires. 505hp is enough to blow off some steam, whenever and wherever deemed fit. The Z06’s Inferno Orange Metallic paint looked appropriately hot to the touch, too.
With these can’t-miss models, Chevy is sure to continue leading the pack in the supercar territory. Hopefully soon, the Corvette Stingray Concept becomes reality, showing off the next evolution of the popular sports car to new generation of fans.
