"He was arrested for a misdemeanor. He was booked and cited at the hospital," L.A. County Sheriff Watch Commander Sgt. Scott Wolf tells E! News. "No prints were taken and no photos were taken."
LaBeouf's female passenger and the woman driving the other vehicle suffered minor injuries. According to the L.A. Fire Department, ambulances were dispatched to the scene to transport all three to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where the women were treated and released.
The 22-year-old star of Indiana Jones and Transformers underwent surgery this morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for injuries to his left hand. He also sustained what officials described as minor injuries to his head and knee.
Since it was only a misdemeanor citation, LaBeouf was not required to pay any bail, Wolf said. The actor was given an August court date.
After initially declining to comment, LaBeouf's rep later released the following statement: "Attorneys for Mr. LaBeouf confirm that an automobile accident involving an additional party occurred early morning in Los Angeles on July 27, 2008. Shia is currently recovering from extensive hand surgery with plans to return to work on the set of Transformers 2 within one month. No further comment will be issued at this time."
LaBeouf isn't exactly Public Enemy No. 1, but his squeaky-clean Disney days are long gone.
In November 2007, LaBeouf was arrested for trespassing in Chicago for refusing to leave a Walgreens store despite employees' repeated requests because he appeared drunk. The charges were dropped after the drugstore chain decided not to pursue the case.
Earlier this year, the actor was cited for puffing away in a no-smoking zone, resulting in a a big PR headache and a small dent in is wallet.
