Last year Transformers was the most profitable foreign film in mainland theaters, with a box office gross of 270 million yuan ($40 million). Murphy was in Beijing to attend a short film competition initiated by 42-Below Vodka.
The competition named "Onedreamrush" calls for 42 budding directors or film lovers around the world to present a 42-second film on the theme of dream. The winner will be awarded 42,000 yuan ($6,100) on April 2, 2009.
The gala sees a jury of high profile Chinese and international filmmakers, such as Werner Herzog and Cary Woods. Chinese award-winning director Zhang Yuan and Lou Ye will take part in the competition.
