Transformers 3 now has its official title and that title is: Transformers: The Dark of the Moon. TFW2005 first discovered the title through the listing of some upcoming movie tie-in novels, “Transformers: The Dark of the Moon – Secret of the Autobots“, “Transformers: The Dark of the Moon – Autobots Betrayed!“, and “Transformers: The Dark of the Moon: Invasion of the Decepticons” (all three novels are set to be released on May 17, 2011).
We have now confirmed the title with sources close to the production. Nothing is known about the plot of the third film and the title doesn’t really provide any hints. Personally, I think the title “The Dark of the Moon” would work just as well for a sexy R&B album.
Transformers: The Dark of the Moon is in 3D, directed by Michael Bay, and stars Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro, Alan Tudyk, Ken Jeong, Patrick Dempsey, and John Malkovich. Hit the jump for a brief recap on what we know so far about the film, which opens July 1, 2011.
As we previously reported, here’s what we know about Transformers: The Dark of the Moon:
- Characters that die stay dead
- Bay says “This one really builds to a final crescendo. It’s not three multiple endings.” He goes on to say, “As a trilogy, it really ends. It could be rebooted again, but I think it has a really killer ending.”
- The villain is Shockwave
- The movie features a space race between the U.S.S.R. and the USA
- They aim to upgrade the franchise with a more coherent story and less goofball humor
Evidently, the Transformers were a big part of the space race in the history of these films, and the new film has something to do with whatever it was that happened on the Moon in the early ’60s. The cast includes new and old faces like LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro, Alan Tudyk, Ken Jeong, Patrick Dempsey, and John Malkovich.
Also, I have no idea who or what a Shockwave is, but if you’re a Transformers fan and that name means something to you, he’s the bad guy this time. I assume this is good news. “Transformers: The Dark Of The Moon” will be released in 3D on forty-seven million screens on July 1, 2011.
