Developer High Moon Studios’ director Matt Tieger views making a game based on the iconic Transformers license is a dream come true, and is just as much a curse as it is a blessing. High Moon is currently working on Transformers: Fall of Cybertron for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

According to Tieger, “It’s a blessing and a curse. Transformers is such a deep universe, but that universe means different things to a lot of different people, and so we really try and satisfy as many of those consumers as we can find… as many gamers as we can, but it is a definite challenge for us.”

The various incarnations of Transformers makes it hard to please every Transformers fan. “What appeals to someone who only knows Michael Bay – how could this game appeal to them, versus someone who grew up on G1? We actually spend a lot of time thinking about different audiences,” Teiger stated.

Tieger admits that he looks to the movies for guidance. “Some movies do a really good job of speaking to multiple audiences,” he said, “The one I always reference is the first Spider-Man movie, the Sam Raimi one; it just did a great job of everything about Spider-Man. Some one-liners in for the hardcore. Haven’t thought about Spiderman in twenty years? Here’s is some stuff to remind you. And then there’s you know, I’ve never seen Spider-Man before, and I get carried through on a good adventure story that happens to involve a superhero. There’s a definite knack to appealing to all.”
