Believe it or not, Transformers was one of the first foreign cartoons to enter China in the mid 1980’s and subsequently hooked a generation of youngsters on the never ending battles between Decepticons and the Autobots.
Transformers fell from the TV screens in the early 90’s but made it back to the big screen in 2007 when the first Transformers movie launched and once again hooked China’s 80’s generation, but now those men have substantially increased salaries compared to their parents at the time and are willing to splash out on buying Transformers related merchandise.
Chevrolet launched the Camaro in China a few weeks ago just in time for the launch of the third instalment of the Transformers franchise, however it is not cheap at just over 450,000rmb.
For several years Chevrolet Cruze drivers have been adding the Bumblebee black hood stripes to their Cruze’s (and other non GM vehicles) to give their cars that muscled look, however for the third Transformers movie Shanghai GM are planning to release the below Transformers special edition Cruze which has some added Autobot-bling.
Power will come from a 1.6T engine that is shared with the Buick Excelle and also available on the regular Cruze and produces 184bhp. The current Turbo Cruze retails for around 160,000rmb so it is not clear how much more this Transformers special edition maybe when it hits the market later this month.
