Los Angeles Sheriff's Department determined that the 22-year-old actor was not to blame for an early-morning car wreck in which he injured his hand and knee, but he is still being investigated for alleged drink-driving.
Whitmore says detectives have determined that the other driver, whose identity has not been disclosed, ran the light and will also be cited.
“He has been determined at this stage not to have caused the accident,” Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said of the "Indiana Jones" star.
The American actor and comedian, LaBeouf was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Sunday after the weekend collision that occurred at 3 a.m. at the intersection of La Brea and Fountain avenues in Hollywood. The accident took place when LaBeouf reportedly made a left turn in front of another car.
LaBeouf sustained injuries to his head and a knee, as well as to his left hand. He was taken by ambulance from the scene to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for surgery on his injured hand. The actor is now recovering from extensive hand surgery. However, he will not be able to film “Transformers 2” for at least one month.
Entertainiment Tonight confirmed yesterday that LaBeouf’s passenger in the car was his “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” co-star Isabel Lucas, who suffered only minor injuries and returned Monday on the set.
LaBeou blames his father, who is a former Heroin addict, for his drink problem. In a recent interview, the actor said: "We used to drink together and smoke together. And it's just a bad deal. It's not something that is conducive to being a role model.”
He went on saying that “No iconic actors that I know of have problems like that. And I don't know how to do it like a gentleman. I don't know how to have one drink.”
Drinking has got him in hot soup a number of times. Last year in November, LaBeouf was arrested in Downtown Chicago for allegedly trespassing in a discount store. The young actor was charged with misdemeanor criminal trespassing after he refused to leave a Chicago drug store Walgreens. However, the charges were later dropped after the store decided not to pursue the case.
In February this year, the actor was caught smoking in a non-smoking area in California, for which he later pled guilty and paid a $500 fine. Last month, in a video posted on YouTube showed the consistently drunk LaBeouf joking around with some friends and using a homophobic slur.
Born on June 11, 1986 in Los Angeles, California, LaBeouf became known with a starring role in the Disney Channel's original series "Even Stevens." In 2003, he was awarded a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Performer in the Children's Series for his work on the highly-rated family show.
He is one of the fastest-rising stars in the film industry. LaBeouf's film credits include Bobby, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, The Greatest Game Ever Played, Constantine, I, Robot, HBO's Project Greenlight production The Battle of Shaker Heights, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, and Holes.
His recent releases include Salton Sea-director D.J. Caruso's thriller Disturbia, Michael Bay-directed Transformers, and Indiana Jones 4, with Harrison Ford.
LaBeouf’s so called first love was a mega-producer Larry Brezner's daughter named China Brezner, whom he met when he was filming “The Greatest Game Ever Played.” The pair dated for three years but ended their relationship this year in the spring, citing lack of time to date as the reason.
