Originally a comic book character, Wonder Woman was the fictional creation of DC Comics. She was a member of an all female tribe, sent as an ambassador to the male-dominated Earth in her too cool clear jet. Lynda Carter played the character in the television series which aired for several seasons in the mid seventies.
While I am thrilled to see Wonder Woman brought to the big screen and I will begrudgingly acknowledge that the selection of an actress/lingerie model may sell a few tickets, I would like to suggest that after witnessing some of the superhuman accomplishments of our female athletes in Beijing, maybe the idea of a fictional strong-woman is outdated. Dara Torres rocked the pool in Beijing and she did it without gold cuffs or a patriotic bikini. Allison Stokke literally flew through the air sans jet and Allyson Felix ran faster than a speeding bullet.
I'm sure I'll go to the movie regardless of who plays the lead. But times have changed since the 70's and now our Wonder Women are real.
