A press release from General Motors before the North American International Auto Show announced that the Chevrolet Beat has been renamed as the Chevrolet Spark, while retaining much of the 2007 Chevrolet Beat style.
This is the first image of the Chevrolet Spark supermini that will be unveiled later today at the Detroit Auto Show.
The Spark's design is heavily influenced by the Beat concept which was first show at the 2007 New York motor show alongside two other design proposals, the Trax and the Groove.
But the Beat won the race for approval, so has now been turned into the finished production article. Power is likely to come from a 1.2-litre petrol engine, and as you can see, the Spark is now a four-door for added practicality.
The vehicle was attached to the character when a spy shot of the vehicle caught the license plate of the vehicle bearing the word, "Skids."
The Spark is likely to see action all over the world, with Asian, South American and European markets all getting the new car. The vehicle will be available for mass U.S. consumption starting in 2011.
